The Deptford Project - INSA from Umlaut Collective on Vimeo.
After our Silent Cinema season finished back in the summer, we were left with a big blank canvas screen which was crying out for a little attention. We asked INSA if he would like use this canvas for a piece of his art and of course he was more than happy to oblige. Here is a great video of his progress as he painted a picture of our future development there. The video was shot by local creative agency Umlaut Collective. We love their work too.

Jamie Oliver’s new TV show was at The Deptford Project. Jamie spent a day with us earlier in the year cooking up burgers with Yanni and his pop up guerilla burger van. We all worked together to create a lovely BBQ style venue with our recycled straw bales, log fires and music from Hayseed Dixie. Perfect.

THE DEPTFORD PROJECT ANNOUNCES SILENT CINEMA’S RETURN THIS SUMMER
Urban cool meets outdoor cinema as The Deptford Project hosts its second season of Silent Cinema as part of their regular Summer events programme.
In its inaugural year Silent Cinema @ The Deptford Project proved to be of London’s most unusual, exciting and popular movie experiences. Due to demand, this year the run has been extended to four weekends in July and August, with each featuring films themed around 80’s Classics, Sci-Fi Alien Invasion, Americana and Weepies. Highlights include Coppola’s brilliant coming-of-age movie ‘The Outsiders’, starring a baby-faced and almost unrecognizable Tom Cruise, Brat Pack classic, the nostalgia and heartthrob-tastic ‘St Elmo’s Fire’, Ridley Scott’s Oscar winning Sci-Fi horror ‘Alien’ and the ultimate tear-jerker ‘Beaches’.

We are pleased to announce that Eat Streets very own Yianni Will be down tmrw night (Wednesday 6th of October) from 6pm. Yianni brings America to South London...
with The Meat Wagon which is a really exciting street food venture run by someone who has the right idea about the new direction of mobile eating in Britain. Yianni goes on regular research trips (gotta love a research trip) to the States and returns to Peckham with great new recipes: chicken wings, sliders, proper french fries and the now famous Bobcat Burger. Not so much a market trader as a true itinerant, Yianni and his Meat Wagon pop up in parking lots around and about. Add a bit of music and an interesting mix of people and all of a sudden there's an underground street food scene going on - great food unencumbered by the strong arm of the law. The Meat Wagon represents the best of what eat.st looks for: great food, served with imagination and offered up by people with personality and pioneering spirit. Join us at the deptford project to meet Yianni and other eat street traders, we will also be screening Metropolis on our huge out door cinema screen. A night not to be missed..
Fun on the day includes a real life caller, a band named Blue Abuse that’ll be banging out country & western ditties as hogs are roasted and lines are danced to a background of much a-whoopin’ and a-hollerin’ in the hay bales setting. The animals from Kingston City Farm are also, charitably, going to be making their way down there for this family-friendly, Deptford redneck extravaganza. This Saturday 2nd of October
11.30am-6pm £2

This is INSA's custom Paint Shop. He's going to be painting cars from his arch and we'll be holding events for people to come and see the results throughout the next few months. Located next to Deptford station, only six minutes from London Bridge, The Deptford Project (TDP) is one of the capital’s creative gems. As well as housing London’s famous railway carriage café, it is home to a group of creatives-in-residence who are based in studios within TDP’s railway arches. The community is a collaborative one and this year resident designers, Jamie Elliot and Liam Healy of Jail Make and textile up-cyclers, Crafty Bitches, have again contributed to the Silent Cinema experience by building the screen, furniture and British-weather-proof canopy. Jail Make’s innovative and eco-friendly palette chairs have been redesigned to make them even more movie friendly and Crafty Bitches have hand-made unique and event-specific cushions and fabrics making the whole experience comfortable and beautiful. They will also be creating specially commissioned hankies, which will be gifted to the Weepy Weekend audience!
Throughout the screening season, the Deptford Project team will again be running their delicious barbeque and this year the food, which is made using fresh ingredients grown onsite by the collective, will be customized to suit each weekend’s theme. Mega- burgers and coke-floats that any red-blooded American would be proud of, ‘Salty Tears’ pop-corn and comfort food to help you through ‘Terms of Endearment’ and ‘Space Dust’ Ice-Cream anyone? Enjoy a meal before or during the film, the soundtrack is run through headsets so you can fully immerse yourself and you won't miss a second of the movie grabbing a snack or popping to the loo.
Silent Cinema provides the perfect private-public cinema experience - It's like enjoying a movie at home only you're in a big group. You can laugh, crunch and scream as loud as you like - in Silent Cinema no one can hear you!

The Last train from Deptford to London Bridge leaves at 11.34pm. All films will end at last 15minutes before this. The Deptford Project is 2 minutes walk from Deptford Station.
We have new neighbours in the railyway arches. Artists The Good Life and Jail Make, Crafty Bitches, Boro design, Union Cycles and Insa's Custom Paint Shop.
We've converted the arches into workshop spaces and everyone's working hard to make them their new temporary home. Watch this space for updates.
In September we'll be doing our very own outdoor cinema space. The seats are being designed by Jail and Boro using old wooden pallets. Our Crafty Bitches will then step in to make the squashy colourful bits that make them comfortable.
We're working on plans to run a series of outdoor eating experiences here to - think Cook, Thief, Wife, Lover meets The Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Watch out for more details.
One of our friends is getting married at The Deptford Project on Saturday 31st July. This is th canopy they've made for their party on site.
Union Cycles are going to be curating Espresso Sprinting and The Tour de’ptford, bike riding cinema (with The Bicycle Film Festival) and running bespoke bike workshops where you can bring your own bike here and customise it.

INSA's Chop Shop has it's first commission, painting this classic Bentley. We'll let you know when it's done.
Our carriage, currently painted with a design by INSA is being redesigned by our new heroes Airside. They're planning an interactive piece working with Deptford locals. Airside are currently collection a whole raft of local stories and tales which they'll then translate into a graphic extravaganza on the train telling a million stories about Deptford.
Come and see what's happening. See you soon
